Protection from hazards on access routes
Doors opening outwards, window parts projecting more than 100 mm when open, and other building features projecting into access routes must be protected by a distinguishable barrier rail with either a vertically continuous barrier or a kerb at ground level.
To reduce hazards on an access route for people including those who are visually impaired, any – (a) door (other than for emergency use only) which opens outwards; (b) part of a window, when open in normal use, that projects more than 100 mm; and (c) other feature of a building which projects, into an access route, should be protected by a distinguishable barrier rail which incorporates either a vertically continuous barrier or a kerb at ground level.
