Performance to satisfy Part R regulations 91-94

It is the view of the Department that the requirements of Part R will be met by making reasonable provision to ensure that buildings are accessible and usable. In buildings other than dwellings, people, regardless of ability, age or gender, should be able to gain access to, into and within buildings and use their facilities, as customers, visitors and people who work in them. In dwellings, all visitors should be able to – (a) get access to and into the dwelling; (b) access and use habitable rooms within the principal storey; and (c) access and use a sanitary convenience in the dwelling. Making provisions to facilitate people with a disability who may visit a dwelling is also expected to enable occupants with disabilities to cope better with reduced mobility and to "stay put" longer in their own homes. It is not expected to facilitate fully independent living for all people with disabilities.
