Performance Standards for Rainwater Drainage Systems

Rainwater drainage systems must carry rainwater away from the building to an appropriate outfall, minimize blockage and leakage risks, and remain accessible for clearing blockages.

It is the view of the Department that the requirements of regulation 82 will be met if – (a) rainwater from a building is carried away from the surface by a drainage system; and (b) a rainwater drainage system – (i) carries the flow of rainwater from the building to an outfall connected to a soakaway, a water course or a combined sewer; (ii) minimises the risk of blockage or leakage; and (iii) is accessible for clearing blockages.
