Gas fires installation requirements

Gas fires must be installed in a fireplace with a flue specifically designed for gas appliances, or a flue designed for solid fuel appliances if shown to be safe. Appliance, flue box, and flue combinations must be selected from those listed in manufacturer's instructions as approved by a Notified Body.

A gas fire should be installed in a fireplace that has – (a) a flue designed specifically for a gas appliance; or (b) a flue designed to serve a solid fuel appliance, provided it can be shown to be safe. The Gas Appliances (Safety) Regulations 1995 (Statutory Instrument 1995 No. 1629) require that particular combinations of appliance, flue box (where required) and flue must be selected from those stated in the manufacturer's instructions as having been shown to be safe by a Notified Body.
