Access provisions for concealed flues

Flues routed within voids must have strategic access points to allow visual inspection of continuity, joints, support, and drainage provisions at first installation and during maintenance.

Where a flue is routed within a void, appropriate means of access at strategic locations should be provided to allow the following aspects to be visually checked and confirmed – (a) the flue is continuous throughout its length; (b) all joints appear correctly assembled and are appropriately sealed; (c) the flue is adequately supported throughout its length; and (d) any required gradient of fall back to the boiler (required to recover the condensate produced as part of the combustion process) and any other required drain points have been provided. This is necessary when an appliance is first installed and should subsequently assist when the appliance is maintained.
