Landscape Protection Assessment Criteria

When assessing development proposals, the Council will consider visual character and scenic qualities, impacts on historic environment and natural heritage settings, landscape sensitivity and capacity for change, and mitigation measures including tree retention and new planting.

In assessing the impact of development proposals on our Borough's landscape, the Council will give careful consideration to the following matters: (a) The degree to which development will affect the visual character and scenic qualities of the area; (b) The impact on the setting and views into and from features of the historic environment and natural heritage assets; (c) The sensitivity of the landscape and its capacity to accommodate change without adverse impact on landscape character and visual amenity; and (d) Mitigation measures, including the retention and protection of existing trees and additional planting and the creation of new landscape features.
