Suitable handrail profiles

Handrails should meet specific dimensional requirements for circular and non-circular profiles to be suitable for all users, with clear specifications for width, diameter, projection, and edge treatment.

Non-circular handrail: 50 mm wide with rounded edges. Circular handrail: 40-50 mm diameter. Not less than 50 mm clearance from side wall or guarding. Not more than 50 mm radius for minimum dimensions. 15 mm minimum radius for edge treatment. Not more than 110 mm projection into the surface width of a ramp or flight of steps. 38 mm reference dimension noted. Note: To be suitable for all to use, the profile of a handrail should incorporate the above features.
