Handrails on entrance and principal storey stairs in dwellings
Private stairs that are part of the entrance storey circulation or provide access to the principal storey circulation within a dwelling must have continuous handrails on both sides, regardless of width.
Notwithstanding the provisions of paragraph 3.24, where a private stair –
(a) is part of the circulation route within the entrance storey of a dwelling; or
(b) gives access to the circulation route within the principal storey of a dwelling,
the stair should have a continuous handrail on each side.
