Ramped approach to dwellings
A ramped approach to a dwelling must have a firm and even surface, be at least 900 mm wide, and comply with specific slope and length requirements depending on gradient. It must include landings, appropriate headroom, and handrails.
A ramped approach should have –
(a) a surface which is firm and even;
(b) an unobstructed width not less than 900 mm;
(c) a ramp or ramps not exceeding –
(i) 10 m in length where the slope of the ramp does not exceed 1 in 15; or
(ii) 5 m in length where the slope of the ramp does not exceed 1 in 12;
(d) landings with an unobstructed length of not less than 1200 mm;
(e) headroom complying with the provisions of paragraph 4.7; and
(f) handrails complying with the provisions of paragraph 4.8.
