Worked example: Entrance hall sound absorption
Example calculation for an entrance hall showing how to satisfy regulation 51 using either Method A (Class C absorber coverage) or Method B (minimum absorption area per cubic metre).
Example: Entrance hall
The entrance hall has dimensions 3.0 m (width) x 4.0 m (length) x 2.5 m (height). The concrete floor is covered with carpet, the walls are painted concrete blocks and there are four timber doors (1.0 m x 2.4 m).
To satisfy regulation 51, either use –
(a) Method A: Cover at least 3.0 x 4.0 = 12 m2 with a Class C absorber or better; or
(b) Method B: Provide a minimum of 0.2 m2 absorption area per cubic metre of the volume.
