Resistance to airborne sound in stairs

Explains that airborne sound resistance in stairs depends on stair mass, ceiling mass and isolation, airtightness of under-stair enclosures, and stair covering reduces impact sound.

The resistance to airborne sound depends mainly on the mass of the stair, the mass and isolation of any independent ceiling and the airtightness of any cupboard or enclosure under the stairs. The stair covering reduces impact sound at source.
