Retained Thermal Elements

Thermal elements being retained, or existing elements becoming part of the thermal envelope, must meet specified requirements. This includes party walls in industrial units where heating is newly provided.

Where a thermal element is to being retained, it should comply with the provisions of paragraphs 3.75 and 3.76. This guidance also applies to an existing element that becomes part of the thermal envelope of the building where previously it was not. As an example, this would include the party wall between units in a terrace of industrial units which originally were unheated, but heating is to be provided to one of the units.
