Exemption for protected buildings from energy efficiency requirements

Building work to a protected building is exempt from energy efficiency requirements if compliance would unacceptably alter the character or appearance of the building, and the exemption must be supported by evidence.

Building work to an existing building is exempt from the energy efficiency requirements if the building is a protected building and where compliance with the energy efficiency requirements would unacceptably alter the character or appearance of the building. Guidance on these buildings is given in paragraphs 3.9 and 3.10. The case for a protected building to be exempt from the energy efficiency requirements of the building regulations must be supported by evidence
