Archaeological Remains of Local Importance

Development affecting locally important archaeological remains is only permitted where the public benefit outweighs the impact, no alternative site exists, and adverse effects can be mitigated at the developer's expense.

Development proposals that would adversely affect Archaeological Remains of Local Importance or the integrity of their settings will only be permitted where it is demonstrated that all of the following criteria are met: (a) The need for, or public benefit associated with, the development clearly outweighs any adverse impact upon the remains in question; (b) There is no suitable alternative site for the development; and (c) Any adverse effects can be satisfactorily mitigated at the developers expense.
