Technical Booklet E Fire Safety·Page 100·Table 4.2 Note (8)
Notes to Table 4.2 - Steel Elements Deemed to Satisfy 15 Minutes Fire Resistance
Specifies maximum A/V ratios for steel beams, free standing columns, and wind bracing that are deemed to satisfy 15 minutes fire resistance under European test method.
For the purposes of this technical booklet the following types of steel elements are deemed to have satisfied the minimum period of fire resistance of 15 minutes when tested to the European test method – (i) Beams supporting concrete floors, maximum A/V = 230 m⁻¹ operating under full design load; (ii) Free standing columns, maximum A/V = 180 m⁻¹ operating under full design load; (iii) Wind bracing and struts, maximum A/V = 210 m⁻¹ operating under full design load. Guidance is also available in BS EN 1993-1-2.
