Context and character appreciation for development proposals
Developers must understand the local context including architectural style, designations, zonings, and movement patterns, particularly where development may impact historic or natural environment features.
Proposals should be assessed with regard to their context, which includes an appreciation of the architectural style, the existence of any relevant surrounding designations and/or zonings and an appreciation of the movement patterns and activities within the settlement. It is especially important to have a clear understanding of this context in cases where the proposed development has the potential to impact upon features of the historic or natural environment of the Borough.
