Fire detection and alarm systems in non-domestic buildings

A suitable fire detection and fire alarm system to BS 5839-1 should be installed in non-domestic buildings. The appropriate category must be assessed case by case, with automatic detection provided where required by this Section and Sections 4 and 6.

In buildings other than dwellings a suitable fire detection and fire alarm system to BS 5839-1 should be installed. The factors which have to be considered when assessing what category of fire detection and fire alarm system is to be provided will vary from one set of premises to another. Therefore the appropriate category will need to be considered on a case by case basis. Automatic detection should be provided where required by the provisions in this Section and in Sections 4 and 6.
