Fire detection system requirements for large flats
Where any storey in a flat exceeds 200 m² in area, an automatic fire detection system complying with BS 5839-6 Grade B/Category LD2 standard must be installed with smoke detectors in principal habitable rooms and heat detectors in kitchens.
Where any storey in a flat is more than 200 m2 in area, the flat should be provided with an automatic fire detection and fire alarm system complying with BS 5839-6 of at least Grade B A Category LD2 standard, including a smoke detector or detectors in the principal every habitable room and a heat detector or detectors in every kitchen.
