Definition: Emergency Egress Window

An openable window in a dwelling that provides a means of emergency escape to prevent occupant entrapment if the primary escape route becomes blocked by fire or smoke.

Emergency egress window – an openable window in a dwelling that may be used for emergency egress in order to avoid entrapment should the escape route or routes be blocked by fire or smoke.
