Means of escape in houses in multiple occupation
Houses in multiple occupation (HMO) should follow Section 5 of DOE Circular 12/92 for means of escape design. The Housing Executive may require additional measures and has published fire safety guidance through the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service.
A suitable approach for the design of means of escape in a house in multiple occupation is given in the relevant provisions of Section 5 of DOE Circular 12/92: Houses in multiple occupation. The licensing of HMOs in Northern Ireland is overseen by the Housing Executive which may require additional measures. The Housing Executive has published the following guidance: Houses in multiple occupation, Fire safety guide, published by the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service.
