Differences in ground level - diagram and requirements

Diagram 4C.9 shows permissible configurations for masonry walls where ground levels differ, with specified limits on height difference, wall thickness, and load conditions. Three scenarios are provided: ground-supported floor slabs, suspended ground floors, and cavity walls with concrete fill.

Diagram 4C.9 Differences in ground level a) examples of ground level differences b) maximum permitted differences in ground level Notes: 1 Floor slabs in fig (b) have been omitted for clarity and may be on either side of the walls shown. 2 Cavity walls should be tied in accordance with Table 4C.5. 3 These recommendations apply only to circumstances where there is a full storey height of masonry above the upper retained level. Ground supported floor slab: combined dead and imposed load W should not exceed 70 kN/m at base of wall; H should be less than or equal to 1 m and less than or equal to 4T Suspended ground floor: suspended ground floor to be level for a distance of not less than 1.25H; H should be less than or equal to 1 m and less than or equal to 4T Concrete fill to wall cavity: H should be less than or equal to 1 m and less than or equal to 4(T1 + T2); see para 4C.17
