Nominal length of loadbearing wall
Specifies how to measure the nominal length of loadbearing walls for different construction types, with maximum limits based on storey height.
The nominal length of loadbearing wall construction referred to in paragraph 3.6(b) should be taken as follows — (a) in the case of a reinforced concrete wall, the distance between lateral supports, subject to a maximum length not exceeding 2.25H; (b) in the case of an external masonry wall, or timber or steel stud wall, the length measured between vertical lateral supports; and (c) in the case of an internal masonry wall, or timber or steel stud wall, a length not exceeding 2.25H, where H is the storey height in metres.
