Man-made contaminants and planning considerations
Man-made contamination is a material planning consideration in Northern Ireland. Developers are responsible for assessing whether land is contaminated and obtaining expert advice where necessary. Planning permission may be granted with conditions or informatives to minimise risk from suspected contaminants.
Man-made contamination, or the potential for it, is a material planning consideration which is taken into account by the Northern Ireland Planning Service in determining planning applications. Where planning permission is granted for a development it may be granted subject to conditions or with informatives designed to minimise risk associated with the suspected contaminants to future users or occupiers of the site. The responsibility for assessing whether or not land is contaminated rests with the developer and expert advice should be sought where necessary.
