Local development plan tourism strategy
Councils should develop a tourism strategy for their local development plan that addresses future demand accommodation, safeguarding key assets, growth areas, environmental considerations, and tourism's contribution to economic development and regeneration.
In plan-making councils should consider how best to facilitate the growth of sustainable tourism. This will be tailored to the needs and assets of their local area and informed by early engagement with relevant stakeholders. The LDP tourism strategy should reflect wider government tourism initiatives and should address the following: • how future tourism demand is best accommodated; • safeguarding of key tourism assets; • identification of potential tourism growth areas; • environmental considerations; and • contribution of tourism to economic development, conservation and urban regeneration.
