Specialist Residential Accommodation - Policy Rationale

The aim of this policy is to help meet the accommodation needs of those individuals whose needs cannot be readily met through the provision of general housing. This aim has taken account of and is consistent with the provisions of the SPPS. It is important that the provision of homes within our Borough meets the range of requirements of all our residents. Whilst the Council recognises that application of the 'Lifetime Homes' standard in relation to larger housing schemes will help to support the desire of our older residents to live independently within their own homes, there are also those occasions where specialist accommodation may be the most suitable means of meeting the needs of our residents. The Council will therefore support the development of specialist residential accommodation where the need arises.
