Separation and amenity protection for mineral workings near residential development
When assessing proposals near occupied developments, adequate separation between mineral operations and housing should be required, particularly for operations involving blasting. The required distance depends on the nature of operations, intervening topography, and housing layout and design.
When assessing proposals it is also important to have particular regard to the safety and amenity of the occupants of developments in close proximity to mineral workings. Proposals impacting upon the residential amenity of occupiers of nearby development may be satisfactorily mitigated by requiring sufficient separation between mineral operations and housing development, particularly where such operations involve blasting. The distance required will vary according to a number of factors including the nature of operations, intervening topography and the layout/design of housing development.
