Local Development Plans - Housing Strategy and Density
Councils must prepare housing strategies with policies reflecting SPPS guidance tailored to their area, including promotion of higher density housing in accessible locations while avoiding town cramming in established residential areas.
In preparing local development plans (LDPs) councils shall bring forward a strategy for housing, together with appropriate policies and proposals that must reflect the policy approach of the SPPS, tailored to the specific circumstances of the plan area. Planning authorities must deliver:
• increased housing density without town cramming: higher density housing developments should be promoted in town and city centres and in other locations that benefit from high accessibility to public transport facilities.
