Regional Development Strategy Flood Risk Approach

The RDS 2035 emphasises avoiding flood-prone land for development where possible and adopting a precautionary approach using the latest flood risk information, alongside sustainable water and sewerage provision.

The Regional Development Strategy 2035 (RDS) also recognises the need to avoid, where possible, the selection of flood prone land for employment and housing growth. It urges the planning system to adopt a precautionary approach to development in areas of flood risk and the use of the latest flood risk information that is available in order to properly manage development. The RDS (RG12) also promotes a more sustainable approach to the provision of water and sewerage services and flood risk management.
