Local development plan provisions for coastal enhancement

LDPs should identify areas within coastal settlements for urban waterfront enhancement and regeneration, directing coastal settlement growth to landward boundaries rather than along coastal frontage to minimize visual, environmental and exposure impacts.

Local development plans (LDPs) should identify areas within coastal settlements or other parts of the developed coast where opportunities exist for enhancement or the regeneration of urban waterfronts, through new development. Generally, the growth of coastal settlements should be directed to the landward boundary of the settlement rather than along the coastal frontage, where new development is likely to have greater adverse visual and environmental impacts and be exposed to greater risks.
