Scope and Application of PPS 7

This Planning Policy Statement, PPS 7 'Quality Residential Environments', sets out the Department's planning policies for achieving quality in new residential development and advises on the treatment of this issue in development plans. It embodies the Government's commitment to sustainable development and the Quality Initiative. The policies contained in this Statement apply to all residential development proposals with the exception of proposals for single dwellings in the countryside, which will continue to be assessed under the policies contained in the Department's 'A Planning Strategy for Rural Northern Ireland' published in September 1993.
