Design-Led Approach to New Housing

The Council will expect a design-led approach to be taken by developers of new housing schemes where the quality and sustainability of the overall proposal is as important as the site itself. New housing developments should therefore exhibit an individuality and respond to local context. In formulating schemes, developers should draw on the positive aspects of the surrounding area to inform the design and layout of their proposals. They should also be cognisant of and pay special attention to enhancing those areas which exhibit a special character, in terms of heritage assets such as Conservation Areas and Areas of Townscape Character.
