PPS 7 Addendum Safeguarding the Character of Established Residential Areas·Page 15·2.21

Justification and Amplification: Natural Drainage Alteration (Section 2.21)

Residential development alters natural drainage systems by reducing water infiltration and changing how rain and storm water flows across surfaces like roofs, driveways, pavements, and parking bays.

Where the natural drainage system is altered by residential development the amount of water infiltrating the ground is normally reduced. Roofs, driveways, pavements, parking bays and a range of other surfaces can radically alter the natural drainage pattern of rain or storm water.
