PPS 7 Addendum Safeguarding the Character of Established Residential Areas·Page 13·2.14
Justification: Potential Negative Impacts of Residential Intensification
Residential intensification through conversion can negatively affect local character, reduce amenity space, increase overlooking and traffic, and result in loss of family-sized housing, requiring careful consideration in planning decisions.
The residential intensification of existing dwellings or the conversion of other buildings to residential use can however sometimes have negative impacts on the local character of an area, the amount of amenity space, and on the privacy of adjoining residents. For example, as a result of increased density, overlooking, increased traffic congestion, and the loss of family sized housing.
