Quality Design Guidance and Standards for Residential Development
Developers should refer to design guidance documents and standards from the Department for Social Development and Northern Ireland Housing Executive when preparing new residential schemes, including those for specialised housing needs.
Further information and guidance on the importance of quality design in new residential developments is contained in the documents referred to at Annex D. In addition, the Department would draw attention to the Department for Social Development's design requirements for Housing Associations which are available for download from www.dsdni.gov.uk, and to the Northern Ireland Housing Executive's publication 'Higher density design for quality and low maintenance – A good practice guide' (available for download from www.nihe.gov.uk). Developers and their professional advisors should take account of these standards in preparing new residential schemes (including proposals to meet specialised housing need).
