PPS 7 Addendum Safeguarding the Character of Established Residential Areas·Page 12·2.8

Definition of Previously Developed Land Excluding Gardens

Previously developed land (brownfield land) is redefined to exclude the gardens of dwellings and apartments, clarifying the regional brownfield target. The term is defined consistently with Appendix 8 of the adjusted RDS.

In recognition of public concerns associated with the perceived link between the regional 'brownfield' target and the loss of former garden areas to development, the RDS has been adjusted to make clear the term 'previously developed land' (also commonly referred to as brownfield land) excludes the gardens of dwellings and apartments. For the purpose of this Addendum and existing planning policy and guidance the term will continue to be consistent with the description set out at Appendix 8 of the adjusted RDS (reproduced at Annex C).
