Context Analysis for Infill and Redevelopment
Context analysis is particularly important for infill housing, backland development and redevelopment in established residential areas. Sympathetic re-use of existing buildings is favoured over demolition and redevelopment schemes.
Existing policy also emphasises that analysis of context is particularly important for infill housing, backland development or redevelopment schemes in established residential areas (see PPS 7, paragraphs 4.6 – 4.11). Redevelopment however is generally considered to be the least attractive option for residential intensification. Accordingly, proposals for the sympathetic re-use of existing buildings, as opposed to proposals involving demolition and redevelopment will continue to be looked at more favourably.
