Historic Monuments Council Role

The Historic Monuments Council is a statutory body that advises the Department on protection of monuments under the Historic Monuments and Archaeological Objects (NI) Order 1995 and is consulted on identification of Areas of Special Archaeological Interest.

The Historic Monuments Council is a statutory body appointed to advise the Department on the exercise of its powers under the Historic Monuments and Archaeological Objects (NI) Order 1995, particularly with regard to the protection of monuments. It is also consulted by the Department on the identification of ASAIs.
