Policy PED 2: Economic Development in the Countryside

Economic development proposals in the countryside are permitted only under specified policies (expansion, redevelopment, major industrial, small rural projects) or under PPS 21 for farm diversification and rural building re-use. All other countryside economic development requires exceptional circumstances.

Proposals for economic development uses in the countryside will be permitted in accordance with the provisions of the following policies: • The Expansion of an Established Economic Development Use – Policy PED 3 • The Redevelopment of an Established Economic Development Use – Policy PED 4 • Major Industrial Development – Policy PED 5 • Small Rural Projects – Policy PED 6 Economic development associated with farm diversification schemes and proposals involving the re-use of rural buildings will be assessed under the provisions of Planning Policy Statement 21 'Sustainable Development in the Countryside'. All other proposals for economic development in the countryside will only be permitted in exceptional circumstances.
