Office and high technology employment development
Office-type industries such as IT and financial services should be concentrated in city and town centres, but flexibility is needed to facilitate job creation. High technology and knowledge-driven enterprises, including Class B1 office uses, may be compatible within areas allocated for general industrial development.
There has been recent growth in office type industries, such as information technology and financial services, and although it is envisaged that this will largely continue to be concentrated within established city and town centres, a certain degree of flexibility is considered essential in order to facilitate job creation and to help attract incoming investment. Consequently, there is pressure for a number of high technology, knowledge driven enterprises, and a range of employment creating uses, such as light industry and Class B1 high technology office uses which may be compatible within an area allocated for general industrial development.
