Policy Objectives for Planning and Economic Development

This section outlines six key objectives guiding economic development planning: promoting sustainable development, creating jobs through adequate land supply, supporting rural economies, encouraging reuse of previously developed sites, promoting mixed-use development with transport integration, and ensuring high design standards.

The objectives of this Statement are: • to promote sustainable economic development in an environmentally sensitive manner; • to tackle disadvantage and facilitate job creation by ensuring the provision of a generous supply of land suitable for economic development and a choice and range in terms of quality, size and location; • to sustain a vibrant rural community by supporting rural economic development of an appropriate nature and scale; • to support the re-use of previously developed economic development sites and buildings where they meet the needs of particular economic sectors; • to promote mixed-use development and improve integration between transport, economic development and other land uses, including housing; and • to ensure a high standard of quality and design for new economic development.
