Park and Share Sites – Government Policy and Location

Government transportation policy emphasises alternatives to private cars. Park and share sites increase car occupancy into urban areas and reduce traffic, and should normally be sited at key junctions on the motorway and trunk road network.

Government Transportation Policy places greater emphasis on alternatives to the private car and on more effective use of motorised transport. Promotion of park and share to increase the occupancy of cars entering urban areas can contribute to a reduction in traffic. Where clear benefits can be identified the Department will promote the creation of park and share sites. Park and Share should normally be sited at key junctions on the motorway and trunk road network.
