Rural Car Parks - Environmental Impact and Design

Car parking in rural locations must be carefully designed to minimize impact on the natural environment, particularly in sensitive areas and for larger schemes serving tourist facilities or rural sports venues. Overflow parking should use permeable surfaces like concrete grass pavers with soil pockets rather than hardened surfaces.

The amount and arrangement of car parking in rural locations can have a significant impact on the natural environment, particularly in sensitive locations. The development of larger schemes in the countryside, such as those to serve tourist facilities or rural golf courses, need particular care in respect of their scale and design. Overflow parking to cater for increased demand for special events should not generally be a hardened surface and use should be made of concrete grass pavers with pockets of soil which encourage the growth of grass, general vegetation or shrubs to hide the concrete.
