Built Heritage Contribution to Regional Regeneration
Scheduled monuments, listed buildings, and conservation areas contribute to sense of place and regional regeneration through tourism and recreation. The Regional Development Strategy recognizes the importance of sympathetic management of these heritage assets and the need for innovative approaches to bring forward underutilized land and buildings.
The RDS recognises the contribution that the Region's built heritage assets make to our sense of place and history and their importance as a resource for tourism and recreation. Policy RG11 identifies how the sympathetic management of scheduled monuments, listed buildings and conservation areas can make a positive contribution to the regeneration of cities, towns and villages across Northern Ireland. This policy is complemented by policy RG 7 which aims to support urban and rural renaissance by advocating the need to develop innovative ways to bring forward under-utilised land and buildings.
