Regional Development Strategy - Cumulative Impact of Countryside Development

The RDS recognises that cumulative development in the countryside can damage landscape, biodiversity, natural habitats and create problems for service supply. Sustainable development principles must be central to rural development.

It reflects national and international commitments to a sustainable approach to accommodating growth within the Region. It states that the cumulative impact of development in the countryside has the potential to reduce its value as a regional asset by damaging landscape, biodiversity and natural habitats and to create additional and unnecessary problems for the supply of services. It also states that the application of the principles of sustainable development must be at the heart of future rural development.
