Active Travel (Walking and Cycling)

The Council will support developments that promote walking and cycling as sustainable transport modes by incorporating safe pedestrian and cycle access, linkages to networks and transport, traffic calming measures, and appropriate parking and facilities.

The Council will support development that enables people to access employment, essential services and community facilities by walking and cycling, by incorporating: (a) Safe and convenient pedestrian and cycle access within the layout of the development with linkages to public transport services where they adjoin the site; (b) Safe, convenient and attractive walking and cycle linkages to existing or programmed networks nearby; (c) Measures to minimise vehicle speed and give priority to pedestrians and cyclists; (d) Secure cycle parking in accordance with published guidance; and (e) In the case of major employment generating developments the provision of shower and changing facilities.
