Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)
Projects likely to affect designated sites may require Environmental Impact Assessment under the EIA Directive, transposed into Northern Ireland law through the Planning (Environmental Impact Assessment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2012. EIA ensures that likely environmental effects are fully understood before planning permission is granted, improving decision-making by identifying potential environmental issues early.
Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA): Many projects which are likely to affect designated sites will be covered by the EIA Directive, which is transposed into domestic law in Northern Ireland through the Planning (Environmental Impact Assessment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2012. These regulations ensure that the likely effects of new development on the environment are fully understood and taken into account before planning permission is given for a proposed development to proceed. As such its purpose is to improve the quality of decision making by identifying potential environmental issues early in the project process.
