Ramsar sites protection
Ramsar sites are internationally important wetlands. The UK has chosen to apply Habitats Regulations procedures to Ramsar sites as a matter of policy, requiring signatories to formulate planning for wetland conservation and wise use.
Ramsar sites are wetlands listed under the Ramsar Convention to protect those of international importance. It requires signatories to formulate and implement their planning for the conservation and wise use of wetlands and their resources. As a matter of policy, the UK Government has chosen to apply the procedures under the Habitats Regulations in respect of Ramsar sites. This position is the stated policy within this PPS.
