Purpose and Scope of PPS 2

Planning Policy Statement 2 'Natural Heritage' Planning Policy Statements (PPSs) set out the policies of the Department of the Environment (the Department) on particular aspects of land-use planning and apply to the whole of Northern Ireland. Their contents will be taken into account in preparing development plans and are also material to decisions on individual planning applications and appeals. This Planning Policy Statement, PPS 2, sets out the Department's planning policies for the conservation, protection and enhancement of our natural heritage. For the purpose of this Planning Policy Statement, natural heritage is defined as "the diversity of our habitats, species, landscapes and earth science features".
