PPS 17 Control of Outdoor Advertisements·Page 8·2.1
Policy Context and Regional Development
The Regional Development Strategy promotes employment and economic development while maintaining environmental quality. Advertising contributes to economic vibrancy but requires careful control due to potential environmental impacts.
The Regional Development Strategy (RDS) seeks to promote employment and support economic development of the region while sustaining a high quality environment. The role of advertisements is not specifically referred to in the RDS, but advertising by its very nature contributes to the creation of a vibrant and competitive economy. Care however must be exercised given the potential significant impact that outdoor advertising may have on the environment.
