Transportation Integration and Accessibility

Good transportation links and sustainable transport modes are essential to sustainable development. The Council will prioritise land allocations that reduce reliance on motorised transport and connect well with local services.

Good transportation links, a choice of sustainable transport modes and improving accessibility to all, are important to furthering sustainable development and improving the economic vitality and attractiveness of our Borough as a place to live, work and visit. The goal of improving accessibility for all modes of transport and for all people is a key element of both regional transportation and regional planning policy. The successful integration of transport and land use is fundamental to the objective of furthering sustainable development and this is reflected both in the Plan's Spatial Growth Strategy and the policy measures being brought forward by the Council to promote active travel. When bringing forward land allocations in the Local Policies Plan, the Council will give preference to those sites that will help reduce the need for motorised transport and that connect well with our local services.
